High School Academics

Curriculum That Unlocks Possibilities

Missouri Virtual Academy (MOVA) knows success is not a single destination, and the journey can take many turns. But no matter the path, we believe in unlocking every learner's potential by meeting them where they are and helping them reach their goals.

Explore Our Courses

As students move through middle school and into high school, their work becomes increasingly independent. High school courses are designed for students targeting a four-year university, a local community college, or an immediate career.

Many high school courses are offered at two levels: on-level and honors.

In all courses levels, students:

  • Learn grade-level content

  • Complete coursework that might require writing or
    research projects

  • Tackle problems that require analytical thinking

In honors courses, students also:

  • Evaluate and synthesize information

  • Demonstrate more advanced writing skills

  • Participate in honors projects

View MOVA's High School Course List Overview for information on the courses offered at each grade level [PDF].

And try out sample lessons to get a taste of the online learning experience.

Preparing High School Students for College and Career

Your teen can gain a competitive edge for the future—whether that includes college, a career, or both. MOVA gives students the opportunity to explore career options and participate in specialized, career-related experiences. They can also prepare to take industry-recognized certification exams upon graduation.**

Students can choose from a broad range of courses in our career and college prep program.

Courses

MOVA offers a wide range of courses for all high school students. For more information on specific courses please contact the appropriate grade level counselor.

Live Instruction

High school students are placed in classes with teachers and their classmates. Each course teacher offers live classes, small groups, help sessions, social events, and other weekly activities.

Supplies

K12 will supply students with necessary supplies at the beginning of the school year or when a student enrolls. Laptops are sent to eligible families. If there is a need for a laptop and the family was denied during the enrollment process, the family can reach out to the school administrators to make an additional request.

Social Events

MOVA offers high school students a wide range of virtual and in-person social gatherings. While not required, students are encouraged to spend time with their friends from class. MODA offers students a range of virtual clubs, including the Student Council and National Honor Society for high schoolers.

MOVA Co-Op Work Program

Co-Op Requirements:

1. Student must be 16 years of age before semester begins.

2. Student must already have a part-time job or volunteer hours on a regular weekly basis.

Co-Op Staff Contact: Chuck Orlando - corlando@k12.com.

Early Graduation

Early Graduation Requirements:

A. Student will receive a regular diploma.

B. The early graduating student will receive their diploma at the end of the school year (same time as other graduating eight semester students).

C. Students considering early graduation must complete and return an early graduation request form to the guidance counselor by the end of September. Failure to complete and return the required early graduation form to the high school guidance counselor by the end of September will make student attendance mandatory for the eighth semester regardless of the number of school credits earned.

D. Early graduation request will be approved or denied by the Grandview R-II Board of Education at or prior to the December board meeting. The decision made by the Grandview Board of Education is final and cannot be changed once decided upon. For example, if the school board approves an early graduation request, the student can't later decide to return to school during the second semester. Early graduation request will be approved for the following reasons:

1. Immediate enrollment in college - a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 is required. (Immediate refers to a January or February start date for full time students only.)

2. Immediate military service - a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 is required. (Immediate refers to a January or February start date and refers to regular military, not National Guard).

3. Result of a hardship - the hardship must be due to emergency or unusual situations. The Grandview Board of Education will determine what is or is not an emergency or unusual situation.

E. Students approved for early graduation must submit proof of compliance with one of the three aforementioned reasons for early graduation prior to the graduation of the class by the end of the school year. A student who does not comply with the guidelines will not receive their diploma with their class and must petition the Grandview Board of Education for a new plan for graduation.

F. Students who are approved for early graduation will lose their membership and eligibility to participate in all extracurricular activities at the end of their seventh semester. This includes but not necessarily limited to, all athletic and award activities and programs. The only activity in which early graduating seniors will be allowed to participate is the graduation program

*The K12 high school catalog is a complete list of the high school courses K12 provides. While MOVA offers a comprehensive selection of courses, not every K12 high school course is available to MOVA students. Information on specific courses of study and available electives are provided upon enrollment. For details, please speak to an enrollment consultant during the enrollment process.
**Many Microsoft®️ Office certificates can be earned after completing one course. Other certificates require more classes to be better prepared, and students who participate in the program for at least two years will have further preparation for certification testing.
